Skin Repair

Our skin is the body’s biggest organ, and it performs many functions. A major role is for protection, including against physical aggressors such as friction, chemicals and infection, as well as against harmful UV rays. As well as protecting against external forces, it’s also our largest sensory organ and we receive lots of information about the world through the nerve endings in our skin.

Skin Irritation
When skin irritation becomes chronic, it can make everyday life difficult. To help prevent the discomfort and unsightly appearance of skin irritation, there are some simple steps you can take:

  • Make sure your hands are covered during cold weather

  • Avoid hot baths and showers – use lukewarm water instead

  • Wear gloves when handling cleaning chemicals

  • Use mild detergents and avoid fabric softeners

  • Moisturise the skin regularly

Dry, chapped and rough skin is caused by a lack of moisture and fat in the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin), and is most common on the hands, elbows, shins, heels and face. Factors which can influence this are:

  • Cold weather

  • Central heating

  • Air conditioning

  • Stress

  • Friction with rough fabrics and surfaces

  • Hormonal changes such as menopause

  • Ageing (which naturally reduces the skin’s moisture content)

  • Spending too long in chlorinated water

  • Hot baths and showers

Preventing dry, chapped and rough skin

Regularly use moisturiser on your whole body, especially on areas prone to dryness, roughness and chapping

  • Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated

  • Do not use soap or aggressive chemicals on the skin

  • Do not shower more often than you need to and keep the water temperature lukewarm instead of hot

  • Avoid exposing the skin to extreme cold, rain, sun or wind

Treating dry, chapped and rough skin with Bepanthen

No matter how careful you are to prevent dry, cracked or chapped, some people are simply more prone to it than others, and when it happens, it’ll need effective treatment.

Our Bepanthen Antiseptic Cream helps repair damaged and irritated skin and treats cuts, minor wounds, chapped hands, abrasions, scalds, insect stings and bites and sunburn.

Clean the affected area and surrounding skin and gently rub a thin layer of Bepanthen Antiseptic Cream onto the affected area and repeat as required.
